Crafting the Perfect Social Media Bio (Easy Steps to Get More Followers on IG and Tiktok)

When it comes to crafting your social media bio, there are two things that matter: your goal and the content of your bio. Whether it is Instagram or Tiktok your goal should be the same. What do you want people to learn about you from reading your bio? And how can you use that information to make a compelling bio? In this post, I will share and walk through some easy steps for creating a great profile on Instagram, TikTok, and other social media platforms.

Have a clear goal for your bio

The first thing you should do when crafting your bio is to determine what it is you want. Do you have a goal in mind? Why are you creating a bio? What are the benefits of having one and what can they help achieve?

You might be wondering why this specific information is so important, but without knowing where you’re going from the start, crafting a bio can be difficult and confusing. When you’re confused your message will be confusing and potential followers may skip over your profile. If there’s no end goal in sight, then it doesn't matter how many followers or likes your account gets because those stats will not mean anything in terms of success.

Having a goal is also critical in avoiding burn out because you can measure your metrics in relation to your overarching goal.

In order for anyone on social media platforms like Instagram or TikTok to follow another user who has posted content within their niche (or even outside), there needs to be some kind of attraction factor that draws them over towards their page rather than any other available feed on their platform (which could potentially lead them away from yours). People are inherently selfish when it comes to following others so you need to show them why they should follow you. Your bio is your first opportunity to show that.

Use words that are descriptive, action-oriented, and relevant to you

Your bio is the first impression you make on others, so pay attention to what you say. If a user lands on your profile and reads anything in quotation marks or with an exclamation point, they will be immediately turned off from following you. The same goes for words that are too long or too short. Your bio should also be full of keywords relevant to what your business does, who you are as a person/brand/artist/etc.

You can find out what those keywords are by using Google’s Keyword Planner tool (or another keyword planner and search tool), which allows users to enter their own search terms and then uses Google’s massive data set to report back how many searches occur monthly across various platforms like YouTube and Facebook Video Ads (which we talked about earlier). For example: I want people interested in reading about social media tips!

Include keywords

Keywords are important because they help people find you especially now that most social media platforms have incorporated search engine optimization (SEO) features. If you're a blogger, for example, then it's important to include keywords that relate to your blog in order to draw more traffic and boost visibility. Keywords can be anything from your niche or industry (e.g., vegan food blogger) all the way down to the type of content you produce (e.g., the specific recipe).

Your bio should include keywords that best describe who you are as a brand/content creator/blogger and what kind of content you produce so that potential followers know what they're getting into when following/subscribing/liking/commenting on your page/channel.

Write in the first person

The first rule for crafting a great bio is to write in the first person. Don't overdo it; a little goes a long way. This creates a connection between you and potential followers because at the end of the day social media was meant to be social. When you're writing your bio, use "I" instead of "we." For example, instead of saying "We love coffee," say "I love coffee."

Using the word "I" will make your profile feel more personal and authentic. It lets everyone that comes across your page have an opportunity to connect with you. It helps people get to know you better and makes them more likely to follow you on Instagram, TikTok, or any other platform.

When writing your bio, write in a conversational tone—just like how you talk with your friends! Don't be stiff or formal; make sure that it feels natural and comfortable when reading it aloud. This can be tricky at first but with practice, this becomes easier over time! Practice makes progress and that’s what it’s all about.

Acknowledge what's unique about you and your skills

You want to make sure your bio is unique, so it’s imperative that you don't try to be like everyone else in your niche or industry. If you're a wedding photographer, then highlight the fact that you specialize in candid photos of weddings to portray a story of the event. If you're an artist, display your artwork on a page that looks like a gallery wall or behind the scenes photos of works in progress. Take your viewers/followers/audience on a journey with you as you create each piece of art.

On the other hand, if you’re not sure what to share about yourself, just have fun with it! Maybe write some poetry or quotes instead of listing off everything about yourself or sharing images from portfolios; maybe even add a few posts that share a special moment! However creative and fun it might seem though—make sure not too much of this takes away from the focus being put on who YOU are as an artist/photographer/etcetera rather than what type of content people can expect from following YOU specifically. Knowing what content you create is ultimately what will help people decide whether to hit that follow/subscribe button.

Make it concise and catchy

The bio should be short and sweet—no one wants to read a lengthy introduction. It's a good idea to use a hook or question that will intrigue users, making them want to click on your profile and learn more. You can even add a call to action telling visitors exactly what you want them to do.

For example, a travel blogger might share: "I love traveling the world, but what I really love is Instagramming my travels." Or, "Traveling the world (and not Instagramming it) is so boring."

By crafting a great bio, you can attract more followers, grow your audience, and get more views.

Crafting the perfect bio is very important because it can help you attract more followers and get more views.

There are several things to keep in mind when writing your bio:

  • Your bio should be unique, interesting and engaging. It should also include keywords that will help people find you when they search for something related to what you post.

  • The length of your bio is not as important as the content itself; although a shorter one may be better for some people, others prefer longer ones with more information about them.

  • A conversational tone is always best!

Conclusion

By crafting a great bio, you can attract more followers, grow your audience, and get more views. The key to being successful with this is knowing who your audience is and why they would want to follow you. That way, you can make sure that when they see your Instagram profile, Tiktok Page, or YouTube channel they see something that speaks directly to them and makes them want to click “follow” or “subscribe” right away. Now, let’s get you growing on social media!
